CNG Supplies Earmarked for Chabahar Power Plant: NIGC

TEHRAN, Aug 01 (Shana) -- Managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hamid-Reza Araqi said NIGC will supply to Chabahar Power Plant in the form of compressed natural gas (CNG) deliveries.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of NIGC, Araqi said plans are under way to supply CNG to the power plant.

He said an Iranian private company has engaged in talks with NIGC for export and storage of gas in storage facilities of Azerbaijan. 

"The talks are not between the governments of the two countries and Iran has engaged in cooperation with neighboring countries in gas trade as one of its major strategies.

He said NIGC is now supplying gas to over 97% of the country's urban population and 67% of the population in rural areas. Meanwhile it is feeding to power plants 90% of their need for fuel by natural gas.
