NIOC Follows "Lost Tankers" Case

TEHRAN, Aug 28 (Shana) – Director of the Legal Affairs Department at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Ali-Akbar Mahrokhzad says the NIOC is in coordination with the prosecutor general department following the case of the so-called lost tankers.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the oil industry workshop, themed "New Model of Oil Contracts", Mahrokhzad said the NIOC followed the case with a foreign company, which claimed it had paid off its debt to Iran by tanker delivery, while the NIOC has not yet received any tanker.

He said in coordination with the prosecutor general department, the NIOC has put on its agenda follow up the issue in nature both inside and outside the country.

As for settlement of the Iranian billionaire Babak Zanjani's debt to the NIOC, Mahrokhzad said the only thing done in that connection had been the assets of the accused that have been verified and assessed and are transferred to the NIOC.

He said the assets are worth more than 20,000 billion rials and taking the sum, the accused should pay 80,000 billion rials more to the NIOC.

Asked about Iran's sovereignty over the new oil contracts and nature of the JMC in the model of contract, he said the two are totally different topics. He added that sovereignty over the oil and gas sources of the country goes to the Islamic Republic of Iran per the law and the Ministry of Petroleum makes for the right of sovereignty on behalf of the government.

Mahrokhzad said the buy-back contracts already assume formation of the joint committee and that's not something new.

He added that as usual, the committee will study implementation of the contract and annual budgeting and all the executive working procedure and spending on the project. Furthermore, the decisions made in the committee should be confirmed by the NIOC, he added.
