Rouhani: Iran Supports Oil Market Stability, Better Prices

TEHRAN, Sept 6 (Shana) -- President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Iran supports market stability and improved oil prices based on justice, fairness and observation of fair quota for the oil producers.

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with the OPEC chief Mohammad Barkindo.

He wished success for the new OPEC Chief to fulfill his obligations.

'We believe that under unfair market conditions and oil price, all the oil exporters and even consumers will suffer. Instability and the oil price falls will damage the member countries and lead to degradation of the environment. We hope that in light of prudence and cooperation and coordination among the OPEC members, the oil market will be stabilized with fair prices.

'Today, all should follow a single goal and that's ensuring a balanced market and fair quota of all the members.'

Barkindo for his part voiced pleasure with meeting Iranian president and lauded Iran's constant support for independence, consolidation and strengthening of OPEC.

He underlined cooperation and coordination among all the oil producing and exporting countries to overcome challenges.

He said that Iran has key and constructive role in the OPEC, saying, 'All the OPEC members should follow a coordinated just path to solve problems.'

Barkindo lauded remarkable developments in Iran in the field of energy and said, 'Iran achieved eye-catching progress and took giant steps in various economic sectors, especially in the oil and gas industries, despite diversified challenges.'
