Iran to Get 65,000 bpd Oil from Azar Joint Field in 2 Years

TEHRAN, Oct 21 (Shana) – Managing Director of Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDC) Nureddin Shahnazizadeh says by December 21, 2018, Iran will produce 65,000 barrels of oil per day from Azar joint oil field.

Having made the remark after a visit to the field, Shahnazizadeh said increase in production from the field will be in two phases.

“The early production project will result in enhanced oil recovery from the field to 15,000 bpd by March 20, marking end of the current Iranian calendar year of 1395. The second phase of the project marks a period up to April 21, 2017, when up to 30,000 bpd oil will be extracted from the joint field.”

Hence, by end of the Iranian calendar year of 1397 (March 21, 2018-March 20, 2019), joint Azar oil field will yield as much as 65,000 bpd oil.

Joint Azar field is one of the most challenging Iranian fields in terms of drilling. The hydrocarbon reserves, lying in huge depth of the ground, requires highly complicated method of drilling.

Iranian experts have been able for the first ever to use the acidification method, which is customarily used for increasing production level of the oil and gas reserves.

Azar field is a filed common with Iraq, containing 2.5 billion barrels of in-situ oil. The field lies in Anaran block on the hills of Zagros mountains on Iran-Iraq borders southwest of Iran’s western Ilam Province and between the cities of Mehran and Dehloran.
