He said during his meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms that would facilitate agreement of members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on an output cut in a bid to seek a market rebalancing that would boost revenues from oil exports and help their crippled budgets.
Boutarfa also said Algerian has also called on non-OPEC oil producers to curb production by at least 0.6mbd in order to tackle the oil price slump in the market.
"We are hopeful that the next OPEC meeting will save the oil market of the current crisis," the Algerian energy official added.
"In the short interval left to the OPEC meeting, Iran and Algeria will keep cooperating in order to ensure the members' agreement," he further said.
OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers struck a deal in Algiers in September to curb the group's output in order to tackle the oil price slump in the market.
