President: Gas Production Capacity Up 25% in 3 Years

TEHRAN, Dec. 04 (Shana) – President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that about 150 million cubic meters/day or about 25 percent have been added to the country's gas production capacity.

Addressing the parliament after submitting the next year budget bill, President Rouhani said the bulk of gas production capacity added within the period had been following operation of the phases of South Pars gas field within three years since his government took office.

"Furthermore, within the period, starting from 1392 (2013-14) to Shahrivar (August 21-September 20) this year, 90 percent of the country's population have been provided with gas as gas supply projects to about 7,070 villages and 70 new cities are complete," said the president, hoping that the percentage of population benefiting from gas will reach 95 percent by September 2017.

The president then hoped that Iran will emerge as exporter of oil products .

In the year 1392 (2013-14), Iran daily exported less than one million liters of gasoil but in Shahrivar of this year, the figure reached 13.4 million liters a day and is predicted to hit 20 million liters a day by end of this year (to end on March 20), according to the chief executive.

As for petrochemical exports, the president said that in the year 1392 (2013-14), 12.8 million tons, worth 9.6 billion dollars (at prices in the year 1390 (2011-12) as the reference year) were exported and the figure reached 18.8 million tons, worth $13.7 billion (at prices in 1390 as the reference year), in 1394 (2015-16). "This shows more than 40 percent increase in value of the petrochemical exports in the period."
