12mcm Gas Withdrawn from Shourijeh Storage Facility in Recent Cold Snap

TEHRAN, Dec. 07 (Shana) – Iran withdrew 12 million cubic meters per day of gas for heating from Shourijeh Gas Storage Facility in the recent cold snap that gripped the country's northeastern territories.

Speaking to Shana, Yahya Feizi, director of operation at Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery, said the amount was withdrawn from the facility to be injected to the national gas trunklines as consumption rose dramatically during the recent cold.

He said 5 gas treatment facilities of the refinery processed 48 mcm/day of gas during the cold snap.

Last year, a maximum of 11.6 mcm/d of natural was withdrawn from Shourijeh gas storage facility to be injected to the national gas trunklines, but this year the amount was a million cubic meters higher at its maximum, the official said.

Tehran and several other cities in the north and centre of Iran lie at altitudes of more than 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) above sea level and are regularly hit by heavy falls of snow in winter.
