Shiraz University Launches Methanol Research Institute

TEHRAN, May 06 (Shana) – Iran's Shiraz University has launched its first methanol research institute as per a deal it signed with the National Petrochemical Company (NPC).

The center was officially launched via video conference by Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh and Minister of Sciences Mohammad Farhadi on the sidelines of the 22nd Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show 2017) on Saturday.

The institute was established as per an agreement signed between the Ministry of Petroleum's three main subsidiaries and 7 universities and 2 research centers last year for establishing centers for studying downstream oil projects.

Based on the deal, the University of Shiraz had agreed with the NPC to establish a center for carrying out research projects on methanol.

The center will seek to acquire the technical savvy for production of methanol synthesis from natural gas and then supply acid acetic and methyl methacrylate (MMA) from methanol.
