NITC Seals 70 Deals in Post-Sanctions Setting: CEO

TEHRAN, May 23 (Shana) -- Managing director of National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) said his company has struck over 70 tanker lease deals since January 2016 when Iran's landmark nuclear deal was implemented.

Sirous Kian Ersi said the deals were cemented with leading international energy companies, adding that most of the companies are based in Europe and Asia.

The official also said NITC has no plans to increase the number of its tankers.

NITC is one of the world's biggest tanker companies with a fleet of more than 70 tankers in different sizes.

"After implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran's tankers could easily sail in international and European waters," he said.

He further said settlement of insurance issues and vessel classes were some of deal's achievements for the company.

Iranian tankers are currently carrying crude oil for a number of Italian and Spanish companies, Kian Ersi added, saying NITC is also in talks for delivering crude cargoes for Polish companies.
