Iran sends 250mcm of Gas to Nakhchivan in 8 Months

TEHRAN, Dec. 03 (Shana) -- The Iranian Gas Transmission Company (IGTC) exported an average of a million cubic meters of gas to neighboring Nakhchivan in the first 8 months of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 21.

Speaking to Shana, Saeid Tavakoli, IGTC Managing Director, said the gas is being sent to the enclave under a deal between Tehran and Baku for swapping natural gas.

Iran started gas export to the Autonomous Republic under a gas swap deal Tehran had signed with Baku. However, the deal is no longer effective and Iran is merely exporting the gas to the enclave, IGTC director said.

An Iranian company buys 6mcm/d gas from Turkmenistan and has it delivered by IGTC, he added. The gas is consumed in the north eastern province of Khorasan.

Iran exports the same amount of gas to Azerbaijan, he explained.
