CEO says Southern Oil-Rich Regions 90% Clean

TEHRAN, Jan. 10 (Shana) – National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC) has collected over 90% of the oil pollutants in the regions it operates, the company's CEO said.

Bijan Alipur told a gathering of senior oil officials in the southwestern province of Khuzestan that the company has carried out projects which have cleaned the region of oil pollutants by 90%.

NISOC operates the oil-rich regions in southern Iran and accounts for over 80% of Iran's total crude oil output.

"Production of oil generates pollution everywhere in the world, so we are not saying that our projects are utterly clean but I can assure you that we have never neglected environmental issues in our operations."

He further stressed NISOC's close-knit interactions with the Department of Environment (DOE), adding the company has offered all the documents DOE has required from NISOC for reviewing environmental conditions in the operational regions.
