Iran plans to Increase Gas Storage Capacity

TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (Shana) -- Iran is likely to increase the number of its natural gas storage facilities by five, a senior Iranian gas official says.

Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) Hassan Montazer Torbati said the country can bring the number of its gas storage facilities to seven from only two currently.

Speaking to Shana, the official said the facilities will be added to Shourijeh and Sarajeh which are storing gas each with 5 and 4 bcm of storage capacity for consumption in winters.

He said National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) is carrying out studies on the facilities across the country.

The official said the salt dome in Kashan is one of the candidates for construction of a storage facility which is under studies.

There are other regions that can hold natural gas which are being considered by NIGC as well, the official added.
