Iran Ready to send Gas to Neighbors

TEHRAN, Feb. 14 (Shana) -- Iran is ready to start gas flow to its neighbors and boost exports to current customers, a senior Iranian gas official said.

Managing director of Iranian Gas Engineering and Developing Co. (IGEDC) Hassan Montazer Torbati said: "Iran is ready to start gas export to its neighbors and enhance shipments to its current customers."

He said Iran's gas export to Iraq's Baghdad is under way nonstop, adding the country is ready to start gas flow to the Iraqi city of Basra.

The official added that the gas transmission network will soon be completed in Basra, adding the difficulty of constructing a sub-river pipeline has delayed the project which will soon come to an end.

The IGEDC director further added that the infrastructure of gas exports to Iraq is ready on the Iranian soil, adding: "By fully utilizing the sixth gas transmission trunkline, the amount of gas exports to Iraq from the west corridor reaches full capacity."

Gas Exports to Armenia

Torbati said, "The gas transmission network covers all the Iranian territory and we are ready to export gas to neighboring countries; in the north of the country, gas lines also have a capacity to increase exports to Armenia."

Iran swaps gas for electricity with Armenia, but increased gas export to Armenia depends on the country's receiving capacity, the official added.
