No Trouble with Gas Supply in Northern Provinces

TEHRAN, Jan. 08 (Shana) -- Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Transmission Company Saeid Tavakoli says the company has altered its strategy in gas supply to northern provinces in order to ensure gas supply to the region now that Turkmenistan has cut off its gas flow to the region.

Tavakoli said gas pressure in northern provinces is aligned with consumption and there is no trouble with that regard.

On January 1, Turkmenistan cut off natural gas supplies to Iran unpaid past deliveries.

Ashgabat supplied only about 10 million cubic meters of gas per day to Iran which consumes over 700 mcm/d. The exported gas was consumed by northern provinces in Iran.

Iran's National Gas Company (NIGC) has condemned the move by Turkmenistan as a violation of a bilateral accord.
