Speaking in Tehran after a meeting with Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh, Younis Salih said Baghdad has major plans for improving its gas infrastructure which include formation of gas distribution network in industrial and residential sectors as well as producing gas-run cars.

"Iraq needs to cooperate with Iran in order to materialize these plans," the Iraqi official said, adding, "Iran enjoys valuable experiences in gas sector."

The Iraqi official further said, Iraq will certainly take advantage of the experiences of Iranian private developers whether in investment in and development of Iraq's gas industry.  

Earlier this year, Iran and Iraq signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for developing two small joined fields and initiating cooperation in oil projects like laying out a pipeline for delivery of oil and petroleum products.
