Some Azadegan Bidders Think Twice – NIOC Official

TEHRAN (Shana) -- A deputy head of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said that some companies that had initially volunteered to develop the giant Azadegan oil field had reconsidered their bid.

"Some of bidder companies that had earlier shown willingness for development refused to come ahead," said Gholam-Reza Manouchehri, deputy CEO of National Iranian Oil Company.

He said that the process of development of Azadegan was complicated and therefore related negotiations took too much time.

Manouchehri said talks were under way with three groups for the development of Azadegan.

The official also said that 30 operating oil fields in Iran would add more than 400,000 b/d to Iran's daily oil production capacity.

Manouchehri said tender bids were to be held for oil production enhancement, citing the Reshadat, Resalat, Siri and Forouzan oil field projects administered by the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).

He said plans were under way for the signature of $40 billion worth of seven contracts by October. "This planning has been made with the assumption of delayed presence of Western companies," he added.
