"Trump has Backed down on Trying to Bring Iran Oil Exports to Zero": FM

(Monday, November 5, 2018) 16:18

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The United States was compelled to retreat from its claim to bring to zero Iran crude oil exports, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Javad Zarif said.

Responding to questions from Hussein Ali Haji Daligani, who represents Shahin Shahr at the parliament, Mr. Zarif declared that US President Donald Trump had backed down on his claims to bring to zero sales of Iranian oil.

He said the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), from which Washington pulled out in May, was so substantial that was endorsed globally while preserving Iran’s interests.

“If we will, we may progress our nuclear program must stronger than before; a decision that the Islamic establishment needs to take.”

The Trump administration will grant eight jurisdictions waivers that will allow them to continue purchasing Iranian oil.

U.S. sanctions on Iran's energy sector, shipping, ship-building and financial industries snap back into place on Monday.

US officials have declined to say which countries would receive waivers, but China, Japan, India and South Korea are expected to be among them.
