TEHRAN – Managing-Director of the National Iranian Oil Distribution and Refining Company Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh says three new refineries are to be constructed in the country.

“We should move to construct new refineries and renovate the existing ones in order to curb our fuel import,” he told a function organized for him to take office. Nematzadeh said the capacity of Irans refineries have to be increased to boost the economic growth. “Given our six to seven percent economic growth rate in the future and our position in the region, we will see a jump in our energy consumption,” he said. He turned to energy management and said NIODRC has to set up a think-tank to make decisions regarding energy in the country. “If our economy improves the number of cars will rise and our people will pay for gasoline even if it sells very expensive. Therefore, we have to increase our production of oil products,” he said.
