TEHRAN - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kisliak here Sunday conferred with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on the latest position of Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

According to a report released by the Foreign Ministry Media Department, at the meeting, Mottaki expressed satisfaction over mutual talks and said that communications between high-ranking Iranian and Russian officials have always been constructive and positive. He added that Russia's approach towards Iran's peaceful nuclear activities have always been based on resolving the issue within the framework of UN atomic watchdog's regulations. Expounding on the depth of Iran-Russia strategies on bilateral and regional issues, Mottaki said that the US attitude towards the growing trend of Iran-Russia ties in various domains has always been to counter and undermine Russia's influence and the common interests of both Iran and Russia. "Cooperation between Iran and Russia in various fields as well as talks on Iran's peaceful nuclear activities should continue in a constructive way and multifaceted approach. "Iran will examine the detailed Russian plan and then declare its outlook and proposals on the issue," he added. Briefing the Russian official on Iran's achievements with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the minister said that Iran-IAEA cooperation has always been transparent. "We have always been interested in establishing a simultaneous balance between safeguarding our rights and observing our commitments so that cooperation will be pursued actively and concurrently. "Given that nuclear research is distinct from enrichment program, attempts should be made to avoid diverting from the main issue," added Mottaki. For his part, Kisliak termed the ongoing Iran-Russia talks as fruitful and referred to favorable meetings with Iranian delegates at the United Nations Security Council and hoped to come up with the best alternatives through negotiations. He added that Russia always gives priority to negotiation rather than confrontation. The Russian deputy foreign minister said that talks on nuclear issues between the two states can be based on a gradual and fundamental trend to organize all details of Iran's nuclear process. Stressing Iran's right to access nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, he said, "We approve Iran's right along with its commitments to continue its peaceful atomic programs.
