TEHRAN – “Iran is going to require additional production of 35,000 MW electricity in the next 10 years to sustain its ever-increasing energy demand,” deputy minister of energy in electricity affairs Mohammad Ahmadian told the Persian service of IRNA on Monday.

Ahmadian, also executive director of TAVANIR (Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company), reminded that the leap taken in electricity production sector in last several years has provided a sound basis to utilize scientific knowledge and experiences of Iranian experts for progress in this industry as well as implementing future projects with correct planning. Referring to current electricity demand and its future prospect, he said that minimum of 4,000 megawatts more is needed to satisfy the projected consumption in the near future. “However, this necessitates further private sectors involvement, domestic or foreign, which is now the insignificant 10% investment,” he elaborated.
