TEHRAN – After talks between officials of Irans Energy Ministry and Tajikistans Financial Affairs Ministry, there is no problem for Irans participation in building Sang Toudeh power plant in Tajikistan.

The two sides discussed current barriers to Irans cooperation in building the plant and if negotiations prove positive, an agreement will be signed by Iran and Tajikistan during the upcoming visit to Tehran by Tajik president. Iran, Russia and Tajikistan signed an agreement last year for building Sang Toudeh 1 and 2 power plants. Sang Toudeh 1 project will be carried out by Russia while the second plant is to be built by Iran. The project will be conducted as BOO (built, operate, own), but the two sides have not reached an agreement due to financial problems. According to previous memorandums of understanding, Tajikistan should undertake 40 million dollars of the projects cost which will total 220 million dollars. Iran should spend 180 million dollars on the project. Sang Toudeh hydropower plant 1 will be producing 670 MW of electricity while the capacity of Sang Toudeh 2 plant has been estimated at 220 MW. The first and second power plants will cost 500 million dollars and 220 million dollars, respectively.
