TEHRAN – Turkmenistan is unlikely to raise its gas exports to Iran, an official of the National Iranian Gas Company said.

Abdol-Hossein Samari told PIN Turkmenistan had not yet given any precise response to Irans demand for more gas. “The two sides failed to reach agreement and we imagine that Turkmenistan is not ready to increase its gas exports to Iran,” he said. Samari said Irans annual demand for Turkmen gas stood at four billion cubic meters, adding that this country might have sought better conditions and higher prices. An Iranian delegation visited Turkmenistan last week to negotiate further gas purchase from that country. Iran is currently importing more than 35 million cubic meters a day of gas from Turkmenistan. It negotiated to increase it to 40 million cubic meters per day,” he said.
