TEHRAN – Managing director of Fanavaran Petrochemical Complex noted that pre-commissioning acetic acid project has been finished and the plant is going through the first stage of commissioning in presence of representative of the company which has provided technical know-how.

Jalil Ebrahimpour told Petroenergy Information Network that the plants utilities will be ready in a few days and will be accepting catalyst. The official stated that the plant is expected to start production by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2005). “It will produce 108,000 tons acetic acid to be used as raw materials by vinyl acetate monomer plant of Fanavaran Petrochemical Complex as well as 42,000 tons for the first and second pure terephthalic acid projects of Tondgouyan Petrochemical Complex,” he noted. Ebrahimpour added that tender documents for choosing contractor of vinyl acetate monomer project with the capacity of 160,000 tons per year have been given to contractors, but duration of the bid has been prolonged due to limited number of companies enjoying necessary technical know-how. Vinyl acetate monomer project is among downstream petrochemical projects which will create great added value and its products will be used by adhesive and moquette production industries. The managing director stated that basic engineering operations for methanol to propylene conversion project of Fanavaran Petrochemical Complex is underway by Irans Petrochemical Research and Technology Company and Germany Lurgi Company. “Tender documents for selecting construction and installation contractor of the project will be ready soon and the main contractor will be chosen by spring,” he said. Methanol to propylene conversion plant will bee located at Bandar Imam Special Economic Petrochemical Zone with the annual capacity of 120,000 tons per year. The plant will use 370,000 tons methanol feedstock per year, which will be supplied by the third methanol plant of Fanavaran Petrochemical Company.
