TEHRAN -– Drilling at the Caspian Sea will kick off in June upon completion of Khazar Rig that is experiencing 97% physical progress at the moment, planning deputy of Oil Ministry Mohammad Reza Moqaddam said here Saturday.Furthermore, one semi-submersible rig and a floating one being constructed by Sadra Company are 97% complete, and the seas oilfields would soon witness orchestrated drilling operations.

Studies conducted indicate that the Caspian enjoys considerable oil reserves and raising sufficient fund and encouraging investment are a must for the country to exploit and tap into these reserves if the nation is to increase its oil production to over four million bpd next year. On the other hand, implementation of the plan in this respect calls for substantial allocation of technical and engineering capacity of domestic contractors which at the moment are working at full peak. Thus, creation of new capacities commands immediate attention to implementation and planning to this end, the deputy stated in conclusion. PIN/MNA
