TEHRAN – Minister of Energy Parviz Fattah said on Tuesday power stations would not face any problem in case of gas supply cuts.

He told state television that the countrys power plants have enough fuel to serve them for one month. “The majority of our power plants are operating on natural gas but we are building the new ones to be duel-fuelled,” he said. Fattah said new measures had to be undertaken for the power plants if the cold season lingered on. “We have to add 4,000 megawatts per annum of electricity to our national output. We have to produce more than 60,000 megawatts under this government,” the minister said. He acknowledged that the government could not afford 35,000 billion rials per annum to build power plants. “We are also building hydraulic power plants in the country to generate 5,500 megawatts of power,” he said.
