TEHRAN – Irans chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani warned on Tuesday that the referral of the countrys nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council will bring "an end to diplomacy".

"Informing the Security Council or referring the Iranian case to it will bring an end to diplomacy and that is not at all positive," Larijani told reporters after meeting Qatari foreign minister in Tehran. "I do not want to use the term scandalous," Larijani said of the agreement reached between Big Five to refer Iran to the Security Council, adding that Iran "will use all peaceful means to achieve its nuclear technology rights within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty." Larijani said Iran did not want to "be dragged down this route" and asserted "we can still resolve the crisis peacefully". The Security Council can issue warnings or impose sanctions as punitive measures in its role as an enforcement body, unlike the IAEA which has no such powers and has been investigating the Iranian nuclear program for three years.
