MOSCOW -- China could join talks over a plan to have Russia carry out nuclear enrichment for Iran.

Vladimir Yevseyev, coordinator of the nuclear non-proliferation program at the Carnegie Moscow Center political research institute, told RIA Novosti that the possibility of China becoming involved may be why Iran asked to have the discussion postponed from Thursday to Monday. Russia offered to carry out the enrichment at one of its own facilities as a way out of the impasse over Iran's resumption of its nuclear program. Iran's ambassador to Moscow, Gholamreza Ansari, told the news agency that the Russian proposal needs some changes before his country can accept it. Also Tuesday, Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the Duma's foreign affairs committee, said Russia's attempt to negotiate a compromise to the nuclear crisis is a win-win for the country. He said that Russia's reputation will not be harmed if Iran ends up rejecting the plan but will be tremendously enhanced if it works. PIN/POST CHRONICLE
