TEHRAN – Building polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant of Arvand Petrochemical Complex located at Bandar Imam Special Economic Petrochemical Zone has progressed 66.38 percent during 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2005).

The project progressed 3.02 percent during the month ending February 19. The polyvinyl chloride plant of Arvand Petrochemical Complex is part of the eighth olefin project which has been started in 2003 by Germanys Uhde and Irans Sazeh companies as contractors for basic and detailed engineering. The polyvinyl chloride plant of the complex will increase PVC production capacity of Iran by 340,000 tons per year. At present, Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex is producing 175,000 tons polyvinyl chloride while 40,000 tons is being produced at Abadan Petrochemical Complex. Arvand Petrochemical Complex is implementing the eight olefin project including ethylene, PVC and monoethylene glycol plants, at Bandar Imam Special Economic Petrochemical Zone. Contractors for ethylene and ethylene glycol plants have been chosen and both contracts are going through L/C formalities. Building the big ethylene plant of the eighth olefin project with a capacity of one million tons per year has been given to an Iranian company, Petrochemical Industries Design and Engineering Company (PIDEC) for the first time while Irans Sazeh and Spains Tecnicas Reunidas companies are in charge of building ethylene glycol plant of the complex. When all plants come on-stream, Arvand Petrochemical Complex will be producing 550,000 tons monoethylene glycol, 55,000 tons di-ethylene glycol, 3,700 tons tri-ethylene glycol, and 50,000 tons ethylene oxide per year. Major feedstock for the complex is gas extracted from NGL facilities at Bidboland 2 refinery.
