TEHRAN – Irans OPEC governor Hossein Kazempour Ardebili said the organization may have to reduce its production in for the first quarter of 2006 in the face of declining demand.

He told PIN OPEC may have to make such a decision to meet the current conditions. The official stated that demand for crude will decline by 1.8 million barrels in the second quarter of the year, compared to previous year. “We will definitely face stockpiled crude reserves if OPEC goes ahead with its current level of production,” Ardebili said. Pointing to the price fluctuations in the market, he said: “Some OPEC members may do not feel the need to reduce their output under such circumstances.” “OPEC will review these conditions in its next meeting and reconsider its output,” he said. “10-member OPEC is currently producing 28 million barrels per day of crude and it has struck a balance to supply and demand for crude,” he added. Ardebili said OPEC would have nothing to do with propaganda regarding Irans nuclear programs. “There is no question of oil embargo on Iran as constructive and logic talks can go ahead,” he said.
