TEHRAN - Exploration bids on new oil blocks will be suspended until changes on buyback contracts are finalized, director of Exploration Affairs at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mahmud Mohaddes told the Persian service of ISNA on Tuesday.

Referring to the cold reception of buyback tenders by the international companies, he stated that the discrepancies between the articles of these types of bids with the actual contracts in recent years have been the major reason to take a fresh look at the buyback deals. Moreover, the latest official communiqué issued by the Economic Council of Majlis on Saveh and Kuhdasht bids has thus far removed such inconsistencies and other cases must be dealt with accordingly. So far, exploration negotiations on five blocks are underway with qualified firms, and technical unanimity on three of them has been reached while Saveh, Kuhdasht and Garmsar contracts are being negotiated.
