BEIRUT -- Iran's Energy Minister Parviz Fattah here on Friday underlined the need to bolster Tehran-Beirut relations in all areas, particularly in the areas of energy and water.

During a meeting with Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, he voiced Iran's support for the Lebanese resistance movement and government in the struggle against the atrocities of the Zionist regime. He further stressed the importance of national reconciliation among the different Lebanese tribal and political groups. Fattah further referred to his meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, Mohammed Fneish, adding that a future visit by the Lebanese minister to Iran could pave the way for expansion of bilateral ties in the areas of energy and water. President Lahoud, for his part, appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for the Lebanese nation and noted the two countries' amicable ties. Lebanon will continue to resist foreign pressure through unity and solidarity and with the help of friendly countries such as Iran, he added. In a related development, Fattah met and conferred with Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora here on Friday. Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Iranian minister termed the outcome of his talks with Siniora as "constructive and important." Enhancement of Tehran-Beirut relations in the areas of energy, water, electricity, oil and gas were stressed by the two sides, he pointed out. The two ministers also emphasized the need to implement agreements already inked by the two countries at the earliest opportunity. The Lebanese premier further called for participation and investment of Iranian experts and companies in development projects in his country. Fattah arrived in Beirut on Friday for a one-day official visit. PIN/IRNA
