TEHRAN - The Indian Oil Ministry announced on Friday that considering the ascending rate of energy price in the world, India was worried about the price of Iran's natural gas.
The Indian Ministry has also announced that in case - due to the current
condition of the global markets - the Islamic Republic intends to appoint a
high price for its exporting gas, it will be difficult for both India and
Iran to solve the problem of high gas price.
According to the reports, while two years have already passed of
negotiations between Iran, India and Pakistan about the Iran gas pipeline project,
the Indian officials are worried about Iran's probable proposal on high
price of its natural gas.
The reports added that after receiving Iran's price proposal for the
exportable gas, the Indian Oil Ministry intends to consult with the Indian
Ministry of Energy in order to compare Iran's gas price with other fuels such
as nuclear energy or coal.
At the same time, the Indian Oil Ministry has underlined that before
holding any sort of negotiations with Iran over the price of the gas, the
structure of the gas pipelines should be determined.
The reports suggest that with regards to the structure of the gas
pipeline, India has two choices: one to participate in construction and
exploitation of the pipeline from Iranian territory to Indian soil; and secondly, to
receive the natural gas from the India-Pakistan borderline without
participating in the construction of the pipeline.
Although the Indian government is mostly willing to choose the first
option, it seems that Pakistan will not agree with India's presence in its soil
and in such a case, New Delhi would be obliged to choose the second
option.
